A pair of horses that look as though they’ve been shrunk with a ray gun are in need of a new home.

Whidbey Island Farm Animal Assistance Program is trying to find someone who is willing and able to adopt two miniature horses currently being kept in the Oak Harbor area.

The horses’ current owners are elderly and physically unable to care for the little equines anymore, explained Laura Price, a detective sergeant with the sheriff’s office and president of the nonprofit animal assistance program.

The group sometimes takes farm animals into foster care, but not in this case.

“We’re just trying to get the word out,” Price said.

The petite horses aren’t spring chickens themselves. Eve is a 15-year-old mare and Cody is her 12-year-old, gelded son. Price said it’s really important to the owners that the horses stay together.

The horses have both lived their entire lives on the same farm and have never been apart, Price said.

The horsey pair are easy to take care of. In addition to being “sweet and gentle,” the horses are good around children, don’t bite and are halter and lead-rope trained, Price said.

The right person could probably train them to pull a cart.

“They just have great personalities,” Price said.
