Members of the public who wish to weigh in on Clinton’s portion of Island County’s Comprehensive Plan Update can attend a community meeting next week.
County staff will host an open house 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24 at the Clinton Community Hall, located at 6411 South Central Avenue. The county’s planning department has developed a draft of the Clinton Subarea Plan, which is a document used to analyze and address the needs of a specific area within a larger jurisdiction.
The Clinton Subarea Plan is part of the larger 2045 Comprehensive Plan Update the county has been working on, which aims to guide population growth over a 20-year period and determine where it goes.
Clinton is designated as a Limited Area of More Intense Rural Development, or LAMIRD. This means growth in Clinton is limited by access to, and availability of, sewer and water systems.
A subarea plan is not a site-specific development plan and doesn’t directly permit new development. It does, however, set the framework, including land use, transportation, economic development and other sections for future decision-making in Clinton.
