A homeless man with a history of throwing rocks broke windows at four businesses in Clinton on June 2, according to court records.

The damage to Kula Yoga was so dramatic that community members started a GoFundMe account to raise the $6,000 cost of replacing the large windows that make up the entire front of the studio. The post explains that replacing the windows falls outside the property owner’s responsibility and through the cracks of insurance.

Marcie Costello, owner of Kula Yoga, recently moved to the new studio space in Clinton.

“She absorbed the significant costs to outfit a new studio for the benefit of our wonderful yoga community,” the post states. The post can be found by Googling “Gofundme Kula Yoga.”

A deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office investigated reports that a man, later identified as Jonathan Angst, broke a pamphlet display at the Clinton Food Mart and then threw a rock threw the window of Southern Cross Espresso, the deputy’s report states.

Later that day, the deputy investigated reports that someone had thrown a rock through the window of South Island Properties and also broke the yoga studio windows.

Angst was identified through surveillance video, the report states. He was arrested while trespassing in a restaurant the following day.

Angst appeared in Island County Superior Court on June 4. The judge found probable cause existed to believe he committed the crime of malicious mischief in the second degree and set bail at $1,500. In addition, the judge ordered that Angst should be interviewed by a mental health professional for possible commitment prior to being released from jail.

In June 14, a deputy arrested Angst in Freeland after he threw rocks at cars, breaking the windows on two vehicles, according to court documents.
