I hope this letter finds you well and that you are enjoying the summer. I am writing to inform you that, after careful reflection, I have accepted a leadership position in state government and will be leaving my role as Public Health director for Island County. While this was the right decision for my family and my career, I will greatly miss working in local government. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities provided by Island County, which made this next step in my career possible.

As someone who grew up on Whidbey Island, it has been a privilege serving our community in this capacity. Working for our local government taught me the value of public service. At the local level, we live and work in the communities we serve, providing essential government services to friends and neighbors. This unique model creates a healthy desire to innovate and find constructive solutions.

Island County is focused on finding practical solutions for complex challenges. In Public Health, our team works with county leadership and community partners to improve climate resilience, support families and seniors, expand housing availability, prevent disease and protect our unique island ecosystems. This past year, we strengthened relationships with community agencies and local businesses while expanding communication efforts. To foster a positive work environment, we focused on teamwork, appreciation and professional growth. I’m so proud of everything we accomplished together.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Public Health employees, the Board of Health, community partners and my colleagues in other departments. I would especially like to thank the county commissioners for their trust, guidance and collaboration. In my remaining time, I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition as I work to wrap up ongoing projects and support our team. I am confident that the important work underway will continue to thrive because of the great people at Island County.
