Dorothy Camille (Schultz) Stewart
Dorothy Camille Stewart of Greenbank, Washington died peacefully at the age of 91 on October 6, 2016. She was born in Warroad, Minnesota on May 18, 1925 to Fred and Harriet Schultz. She had two brothers and two sisters. Her parents owned a mink and sheep farm outside of town where she and her siblings enjoyed a childhood of 4H activities, music, community dances and farm life. Music was a large part of her life and she and her sisters were frequently asked to perform as a musical trio in the community. She graduated from Warroad High School. She attended St. Katherine’s College in St. Paul, Minnesota for two years and completed her teaching and math degree at University of Minnesota in 1948.
She met her husband Donald Loren Stewart when they were students at the University of Minnesota and they married on July 30, 1949. Dorothy worked as a math teacher after graduation. Dorothy and Don had six children and the family moved to Kirkland, Washington in 1962. The family became an active part of the Holy Family Parish and school for many years. She was an avid gardener and flower arranger in the local garden club. Her love of music continued in her work as a piano teacher and overseeing the music lessons of her somewhat reluctant children. She was a loving mother and fostered close family ties that persist to this day.
In 1988, the family moved to Whidbey Island where Dorothy and Don had a home built overlooking Puget Sound in Greenbank. They connected with the welcoming church community at St. Hubert’s parish. They enjoyed world travel and hosting families through Friendship Force of Whidbey. Life on Whidbey was well suited to their love of nature.
Dorothy is survived by five living children; Barbara Mondau (Fritz Mondau) of Olympia WA; Mary Stewart (Dean Enell) of Langley, WA; Lori Stewart of Greenbank, WA; Doug Stewart of Nome, Alaska; Bruce Stewart (Renny Stewart) of Mukilteo, WA. Her daughter Dana Lamon (Scott Lamon) preceded her in death in 2006. Don preceded Dorothy in death in January, 2016 after 67 years of a very full life together. Dorothy has 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by her sister Barbara Gould of Kalispell Montana and Fred Schultz of Naples Florida.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
