The South Whidbey School District Board of Directors honored several students and volunteers during a meeting Wednesday, March 26.

Jaryl Cave honored poetry students featured in the Poetry Out Loud competition, including state finalist Sydney Ackerman, Skyler Everest, Zack Swain, Sophie Frank, Kohl Hunter and James Itaya.

South Whidbey High School art teacher Don Wodjenski presented recognition certificates for his art students: Maddie Barker with fashion design, Margaret Boram with illustration, Katyrose Jordan with oil painting, Tess Radisch with architectural design, Meaghan Wright with photography and Anna Zhou with illustration.

Langley Middle School band teacher Jess Monett honored her students for an outstanding performance award: Catherine Ballestrasse, Sophia Falso, Matthew Simmons, Liam Henny, Carli Newman, Brent De Wolf, Russell Daly, Charlie Lewarne, Annie Saltee, Andrew Tangeman, Emma Gibson, Elizabeth Simmons, Annika Hustad, Juliana Larson-Wickman, Lily Bjork, Odin Hopkins, Diavonte Degrace and Sean Miles.

Val Brown, a South Whidbey Elementary School teacher, presented certificates honoring volunteers Jayanne Bixby with Sno-Isle Library and Donna Riley for library fundraising.

South Whidbey Academy Director David Pfeiffer presented certificates to tutors Clyde Monma, Tom Rowland, Phyllis Rainey and Julie Jaulus. He also honored volunteers Susie Richards with Youth in Philanthropy, Karen Newman for leading a cooking class, Damon Velasquex for painting exterior doors and Bruce Kinney for the holiday feast.
