The Greater Freeland Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual golf tournament fundraiser Sunday, Aug. 21 at Useless Bay Golf & Country Club.

This year, the event will have some draws beyond golfing. To start, the theme is “Wine Country.”

The wine tasting includes some wines from Whidbey Island, as well as a few special choices from Washington and California wineries. Cheeses and crackers will also be served and the cost is $15 per person. Space is limited so organizers are requiring a phone-in reservation.

A best ball golf tournament is open to all golfers, with or without a membership. It has a shotgun start at 2 p.m. and costs $125 per golfer and $500 for a team of four, which includes lunch, dinner, greens fees and a golf cart.

Organizers added a couple of incentives to making a hole-in-one. Golfers will have the opportunity to compete for a $1 million hole-in-one competition, and contestants must arrive by 12:15 p.m. to qualify. There is also a hole-in-one award that’s a new car.

After the golf tournament begins, there is an afternoon wine tasting at 4 p.m. and a dinner and auction that begins at 6:30 and costs $35 per person.

There is still room for registrants. There are additional contests and cash prizes for winning teams.

A raffle will be offered at the tournament and has a grand prize trip for two to San Francisco donated by China City. In addition, centerpieces created by local businesses can be won in the raffle.

Some of the items in the auction include a wine tour for two to Yakima, with accommodations for two nights and private wine tours and spa treatments; a fully catered dinner and drinks at your home for 10 people; outdoor furniture; paintings; wine gift baskets; and gift certificates.
