Six students from South Whidbey High School have been recognized for their artwork at the 2014 Whidbey Island Art Show.
The students took home first-place awards in four out of five categories in the competition: wall art, photography, ceramics and sculpture. The fifth category is wearable art.
The competition was held May 2 by the American Association of University Women and included submissions from high schools across the island.
Katyrose Jordan won first place in wall art for her oil painting “Marilyn.” Tess Radisch won second place for “Serious Black.”
Sophie Frank won first place in photography for “Margaret.” Karin Filield received an honorable mention for her work “Jose.”
Cheryl Swanberg won first place in sculpture for her work “Phoenix.”
Andy Madsen won first place in ceramics with his work “Jar with Lid.”
South Whidbey art teacher Don Wodjenski had several students enter pieces in the competition and said the school has never received so many first-place awards in the competition.
“They were all thrilled to have been selected,” Wodjenski said.
