Wanting to lend aid to a resident whose home burned down last year, the Langley City Council amended city code that deals with shutting off water rights during a catastrophe.
The council approved unanimously, 5-0, to change the code at the request of Maralie Johnson. In May 2013, her home burned down and was deemed a total loss except for the foundation.
At a previous meeting, she told the council over the course of the past year she continued to be billed for her water connection despite having no way to use or access it.
