A pornography shop in the back room of a small business at Ken’s Korner Shopping Center in Clinton was ordered closed Monday by the shopping center’s manager.

Owners of H P Cleaners were told by official letter from Sue Reyes, shopping center manager, to remove the X-rated magazines and videos for sale from the store, an employee at the cleaners who declined to be identified confirmed.

“It was a possibility, but now it’s no longer a possibility,” said the employee, who received a copy of the letter. “The owner told me to close it down.”

The employee said access to the room, which opened about two weeks ago, was to be available by word-of-mouth only, but that the employee had told only one person about it.

“Now everyone on the island knows,” the employee said.

Word of the facility has generated a fury of outrage throughout South Whidbey over the weekend, with some criticizing its location near the Skagit Valley College branch classrooms and Island Dance.
