The Whidbey Crabs baseball team will hold tryouts this month for players who will be 13 or 14 by April 30, 2012.
Tryouts are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at Dave Mackie Park and are expected to last two hours.
Player registration and team information will be available for parents and guardians. Prospective players should come in appropriate baseball attire with a glove, bat and cleats.
The day will consist of four parts: registration information and materials to be completed by participants; explanation of tryouts, selection and required deadlines; field skills evaluation (which includes throwing and catching skills, base running, infield and outfield defensive drills, individual hitting and pitching evaluation for potential pitchers); and a summary and wrap-up.
Crabs officials said they expect to select 12 or 13 players for the roster. The Crabs need to have at least 10 players registered with the league, the Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletics Association, by the middle of August. There are at least six open spots on the roster. Current 12-year-old Little League players are eligible.
During the final week of August there will be an open tryout in Mountlake Terrace for any player that has not been selected. Each MTYAA team is required to draft at least one player at that tryout.
