coming to Whidbey
A new theater company, the Whidbey Island Retro Theater, is planning its first production.
The play is called “Inside Nuremberg,” and was written by Clinton resident Richard Williams. It will open July 18 at Bayview Community Hall.
“Inside Nuremberg” takes place in postwar Nuremberg, Germany during the war crimes trials of the surviving high-ranking Nazis.
Volunteers who would like to help out are needed and much appreciated. The company needs just about everything required to produce a community theater production including a director, stage manager, set design and construction, lighting and sound technicians and costumes.

Art show looks
at sexual abuse
As part of Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, Citizens Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) of Island County will present the third “Expressions of the Long Journey” art exhibit.
The show will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday,
April 24 in the Front Room gallery at the Bayview Cash Store.
This show honors survivors of sexual abuse and gives them the opportunity to display their art and learn more about the healing process by sharing with others.
There will be resources on hand, as well as a CADA representative and a therapist experienced in helping people who have been sexually abused.
Everyone is welcome to submit art, and the public is invited to view the show.
CADA gratefully acknowledges the generosity of Goosefoot for its support of the exhibit.

Registration set for kindergarten
The South Whidbey Primary School will hold an information night for parents next week to get families ready for registration.
Parents can learn about the school’s philosophy, curriculum, readiness skills and program options. The session will be at
7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 in the Primary School’s multi-purpose room.
Kindergarten registration will run from 9 a.m. to noon and
1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at the Primary School.
Children can be registered if they will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31. Parents need to bring all necessary documentation with them for placement, including:
• State-certified birth certificate. (If parents don’t have a birth certificate for their child, contact Donna Evans at 221-6808, ext. 4630. She will provide the information needed to acquire a valid birth certificate.)
• Immunization record. (By the time children enter kindergarten, they must have certain specific immunizations. School nurse Jill Workman will be available at registration to answer questions.)
Healing touch class held in Freeland
A basic-level workshop on Therapeutic Touch, the Krieger-Kunz Method, will be held from
5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 25, and
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday,
April 26 at The Chiropractic Zone in Freeland.
Therapeutic Touch is based on the belief that a human being is a complex system of energies: disease/disorder may occur when there is congestion, depletion and/or imbalance of energy. Therapeutic Touch begins with compassion and each treatment is given with the conscious intent to help a person re-pattern energy.
The workshop will be presented by Cathy Fanslow-Brunjes.

Organizers of this year’s
Burning Word are desperately seeking volunteers for the upcoming poetry gathering.
More helpers are needed for Burning Word: The Festival of Poetic Fire, which is coming to Greenbank Farm on Saturday, April 26.
