Chris Jerome has won his bid to represent Langley on the board for the Port of South Whidbey.

His opponent, Dean Enell, called late Friday to offer his congratulations.

Jerome, who will replace Rolf Seitle on the board, said he will continue to monitor port meeting and decisions until he takes office on Jan. 13 at the first meeting of 2010.

“Many thanks for your votes and support during the campaign,” Jerome told his supporters. “I will do my best to honor the faith you have shown in me.”

Jerome was leading opponent Dean Enell with an 89-vote lead in the latest Island County election tally released Friday night, up from a 65-vote lead on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Jerome has 2,802 votes, and Enell has 2,713.

According to the most recent vote count, announced by Island County on Friday afternoon, Jerome now has 50.81 percent of the vote, and Enell, 49.19 percent.

At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Freeland Library, Curt Gordon will be sworn in to fill Lynae Slinden’s seat representing Clinton. Gordon won approval with 3,003 votes over Mona Newbauer and Ed Jenkins.
