LETTER TO THE EDITOR | Thanks for your help

To the editor:

The South Whidbey Elementary PTA’s 2009 Jog-a-thon was a tremendous success. Even during tough economical times, our community pulled through and donated more than $13,000.

This money directly impacts our students, teachers and schools. It helps fund educational opportunities such as field trips, Science Day, and classroom projects; it supports teachers’ passions and interests through special grants; and it strengthens our school environment with playground and library equipment. It’s a win-win for our community.

We have some key people to thank for their help in the Jog-a-thon. Steve Springer of Red Apple supported our fundraiser again this year. Red Apple donated more than 600 apples, which the students received after completing their laps.

Elementary PE specialists Jan McNeely and Craig Stelling incorporated the timed jogging into their curriculums, making the event more relevant for the students.

The staff members were helpful and supportive of all facets of the event. Many parents volunteered several hours on Jog-a-thon day, as well as during the weeks afterwards. We couldn’t have sponsored this event without the volunteers who made it happen.

Lastly, we thank the parents, neighbors, relatives, and other community members who sponsored a child and helped put an extra $13,000 directly back into our schools. We know you work hard for your money, and we appreciate you investing it in our schools. Thank you.
