The South Whidbey soccer team’s brief stay at number one in the Cascade Conference came to an end Tuesday, following its 3-1 loss to the Lakewood Cougars.
With a 5-3 record, the Falcons are now tied for second place with Cedarcrest and Archbishop Murphy, behind King’s.
Against Lakewood, Falcon Pat Myatt scored first, the Cougars replied in kind and it was 1-1 at the break.
“With 10 minutes left in the game, a Lakewood midfielder broke loose and sent an impossible-to-stop missile past goalie TJ Russell,” said Falcon coach Joel Gerlach.
The Cougars scored again just before the game ended for the 3-1 final.
“They were good, and we had some key players out for injuries,” Gerlach said. “But we have a long series of games on our home field, and expect to pull back up to the first spot.”
