Blood reserves are dangerously low and the Useless Bay Country Club is trying to help.

The club is donating space for a Puget Sound Blood Center blood drive scheduled 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 5725 Country Club Drive, Langley.

Appointments can be made by calling Bill Cochran, 360-321-2672, at the club in person, or by calling the Blood Center at 1-800-398-7888. Drop-ins will be fit in where there are openings.

South Whidbey is known as a giving community and donating blood is one of the most important ways to give as it directly saves lives, said Cochran, a club member.

“Two years ago at our first Club blood drive, we set a record for the most first-time givers,” he said. “Let’s try to do it again.”

The rules keep changing so those turned down in the past are encouraged to try again. Kids 16-18 need a parent or a parent signed authorization.
