To the editor:
For the last 18 years, I have had the honor and privilege to know and work with Bob Herzberg, Langley’s Chief of Police.
On Feb. 28, Bob retired after 32 years of service to the city of Langley.
I can’t imagine Langley without Bob. Bob is the epitome of what a public servant should be. I truly have never known anyone that
I hold in higher respect than Bob Herzberg. Bob is tough on crime, yet still manages to treat all people — suspects, criminals and victims with respect and kindness. He also demands that his officers do the same. Bob takes the time to talk with those who have done wrong, and has been successful over the years in helping a young person to turn their life around and take a better path.
When my own children were growing up, several of them endured a few Chief Bob lectures. Though they are all adults now, they still think of Bob with appreciation and fondness. Bob changed their perception of what a police officer is.
Bob cares deeply about the city and its residents and has served Langley well over these many years. Now it is time for Bob and his wonderful wife, Sue, to kick back and enjoy their well-deserved retirement.
So, thank you Bob, my dear friend, and happy trails to you and Sue. I can’t wait to hear about your new adventures. You will be sorely missed in Langley.
