The Whidbey Island Arts Council’s 2016 Poetry Slam season continues this weekend.

An evening of poetry and people, the event begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 11, at Freeland Cafe. Jim Freeman, singer-songwriter Erik Christensen and Hostess of Fun Rebecca will host.

Poetry experience is not required, but fun is guaranteed, according to a recent news release.

Gifts from Freeman’s prize shed will be distributed to all those in attendance, as well as to participants writing and reading their poems, which are created on-the-spot and can include words suggested by the audience.

The Whidbey Island Arts Council’s poetry slams, now in its 24th year, are part of the organization’s continuing support of local art and local artists. All adults, 21 and up, are welcome.
