Competing in only his third official triple jump, South Whidbey senior Kale Reichersamer claimed first place at the Cashmere Invitational on Saturday, April 12.
The Falcon senior out-jumped the other two dozen athletes with a mark of 39 feet, 11 inches, which was 2.5 inches shorter than his career-best leap.
Teammate Nick French, also a senior, won the javelin event with a throw of 171 feet, 5 inches. The mark was more than three feet farther than the second-place finisher from LaSalle, Matt Wellner.
South Whidbey’s girls team had four first-place finishers on the 1,600-meter relay. Jaime Rodden, Anna Leski, Megan Drake and Mackenzie Hezel finished in 4:19.39, the fastest mile-relay race run by a South Whidbey team in the past four seasons. They needed almost every second as a team from Lynden was close on their heels with a 4:20.43 finish.
