An ATM machine stolen from Village Pizzeria in Langley early Friday morning was found just outside the city later the same evening, police said.

Acting on a tip, police found the machine missing from Village Pizzeria on First Street in a field behind a residence, Langley Police Chief Bob Herzberg said.

The machine, which stands about 58 inches tall and weighs 280 pounds, was broken open and an undetermined amount of cash was missing, Herzberg said.

The ATM was taken by someone who broke a window in the door of the pizzeria and ripped clear the machine that was bolted to the floor next to the door.

The power cord to a drinks cooler next to the ATM was pulled from the wall, but no other damage was reported and nothing else was missing, pizzeria owner Paul Sarkis said Friday.

Sarkis said it was the first break-in at the restaurant in the 16 years he’s owned it.
