Ann Randolph, an award-winning, critically-acclaimed comedian, will be bringing her latest solo show, “Loveland,” to Whidbey Island Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 22.
Randolph recently completed a sold-out, two-year run of the show in San Francisco where it received numerous accolades, including being deemed “hysterically funny, heart-rending… brilliant… outrageous, arresting and deep” by the San Francisco Examiner and “genius” by Mel Brooks.
The show follows the journey of Frannie Potts, an “irreverent oddball” as she flies cross-country to attend a family member’s funeral, breaking down while flying above America’s heartland.
“Death, dying and loss are such taboos in our society,” said Randolph in a recent press release. “Yet, as painful as they are, these experiences often have an absurd and deeply funny side. Individual experiences of loss have a universal quality. Audiences find their own stories reflected in Frannie’s journey in a way that is surprisingly cathartic.”
In addition to the show, Randolph will host a three-and-a-half day “Write Your Life” workshop Thursday, Oct. 23, through Sunday, Oct. 26, on Whidbey.
Tickets cost $20 for adults and $18 for seniors and may be purchased online at wica
online.org, by phone at 360-221-8268 or in person at the box office.
The show is R-rated. For details or to sign up for the workshop, visit annrandolph.com.
