Clinton Town Picnic set to return as free event

The second annual Clinton Town Picnic is poised to return in September. A free event with food, music and a squash-chucking, giant slingshot is tentatively set to take over Dan Porter Memorial Park on Saturday, Sept. 12 in the heart of Clinton.

The second annual Clinton Town Picnic is poised to return in September.

A free event with food, music and a squash-chucking, giant slingshot is tentatively set to take over Dan Porter Memorial Park on Saturday, Sept. 12 in the heart of Clinton.

Organized by the Clinton Community Council, a nonprofit comprised of volunteers looking for ways to improve Clinton and create community, the event was a squash-smashing success in its first go-round in 2014.

“This is our primary thing,” said Jack Lynch, president of the council.

The group plans on drumming up interest possibly through a mailer. Volunteers are needed to help set up and take down tables, chairs and shading tents, cooking, running a sign-up table and for a possible bake sale. Donations for food and drink are also being sought to help keep the event free.
