Organizers and supporters of the Upper Langley co-housing project in Langley will hold a ground breaking ceremony this weekend.
The event begins at noon Sunday, May 31 at the project site near the end of Al Anderson Avenue.
The Upper Langley project is an affordable housing development and intentional community that was recently OK’d by the Langley hearing examiner. According to Cary Peterson, a founding partner of the project, the land has been owned since 1995, making the upcoming groundbreaking a long time coming.
“We couldn’t be more excited,” Peterson said.
Upper Langley will see construction of 16 single-family units on 975-square-foot lots on 10 acres of forested land on the west side of Al Anderson Avenue.
About one-fourth of the entire parcel will be set aside for the homes, paths, a community house and shared garden. The rest of the property, which will be co-owned by community members, will remain undeveloped forest land and meadow.
Infrastructure construction is expected to begin in early June.
