Someone broke into the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District’s building on Maxwelton Road Thursday night. The burglary was discovered early Friday when district office manager Peggy Hockett arrived at work.

It appeared that Parks Director Terri Arnold’s office was the only room entered by the intruder, Hockett said. A window was broken to gain access; it was not connected to the alarm system.

“The only thing taken was a 1-year-old Dell computer worth about $1,500,” Hockett said. “They closed her door and didn’t go into other offices, I suppose to avoid tripping our alarm system.”

She added that there was no sensitive information on the computer.

“And without being connected to the network server, the data is basically worthless,” Hockett added.

Arnold’s office is located to the rear of the building, facing heavy woods and away from the street.

There are no suspects, but an investigation of the break-in has started by the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Another business in the area was also burglarized this past weekend at Ken’s Korner. Someone entered the Family Care Center early on June 12 and stole a laptop computer and other items.
