A man died after jumping from Deception Pass Bridge Monday morning.
A woman saw the man hanging over the side of the bridge and walked over to him. She begged him to hold on, but he let go as she grabbed for him, according to witnesses.
Several people driving by saw the incident, which occurred at about 8:30 a.m.
The man hit the rocky beach below and died instantly, according to officials at the bridge.
Witnesses said the man parked his car on the north side of the bridge. He died on the Skagit County side of the bridge, which spans from Whidbey Island to Skagit County.
Traffic at the bridge was briefly halted as witnesses stopped their cars to see if they could help.
