‘The Journey to Joy’ at SWCC on Sunday

Sunday’s sermon at South Whidbey Community Church will be from the Old Testament Book of Ruth. Pastor Ron Wedeking will preach on the topic, “The Journey to Joy.”

Sunday worship at SWCC is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the life of Abraham. These are open classes, and everyone is invited.

Home Bible studies are also offered; check the church website for times and locations.

All SWCC sermons and special adult forum events are recorded, and are available on the website. The church is a local independent, non-denominational church that welcomes everyone and gathers for worship at the historic Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

Celebrating the mystery this Sunday

As scientists pursue answers to questions of the earth’s origins and human nature, people of faith struggle with the mysteries that lie beyond the answers science can provide. At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Kit Ketcham will speak about the spiritual benefits of accepting mystery.

All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided. The service is at 10 a.m. at 20103 Highway 525, just north of Freeland. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.

Service examines the teachings of Jesus

“Jesus’ demonstrations sift the chaff from the wheat, and unfold the unity and the reality of good, the unreality, the nothingness, of evil,” (“Science and Health”).

Jesus taught his followers that as children of God, they inherited only good, and that the reality of their lives was based in Spirit, not in the darkness of oppression, fear, sickness and worry. It is possible and wise to follow Jesus’ teachings today. On Sunday, the Christian Science service examines the “Reality” of Jesus’ teachings and of our unity with the Creator.

Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road. All are welcome.

Rev. Gabriel speaks at Unity of Whidbey

When we were children, we were taught to prepare for a “rainy day,” which usually showed up sooner or later. Today we are reminded to “prepare for the worst and hope for the best.” As we study the Law of Attraction, how much does what we prepare for impact what we experience? Join Rev. Joanna Gabriel and musician Heidi Hoelting for this interesting exploration at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.

The service is at 10 a.m., and Joy Williams will be the platform assistant.

A Heart Circle will meet at 11:45 a.m., and a Course in Miracles group meets from 3:30 to 5 p.m. All are welcome.
