South Whidbey’s Junior Falcons basketball team fell for the first time this season Saturday.
Playing the Orcas, South Whidbey’s seventh/eighth-grade team had a poor day on the court, shooting about 20 percent from the field — the lowest of the season according to coach Erik Jokinen. The result was a 31-24 loss.
South Whidbey recovered in the second game of the doubleheader to defeat Stanwood 38-30. Jokinen noted in an email that Nick Young shot 50 percent, relying on backdoor cuts for layups.
“Play of the game came from Blaine (Leroy) who hit Dexter (Jokinen) on a really nice baseline skip pass for a score,” Erik Jokinen wrote.
Thus far, South Whidbey has a 5-1 record. The Falcons face squads from Burlington and Arlington this weekend in La Conner.
