Langley Police Chief Dave Marks got his man. Though he wasn’t the one to personally arrest Travis Loetterle, who he jokingly called his “arch-nemesis.” That credit goes to a handful of law enforcement officers and the law of gravity that what goes up must come down. Langley’s newest officer Lucas Adkins apprehended Loetterle, an alleged thief who was on the lam for failing to appear in court on several charges. In the police report, Adkins wrote that he saw Loetterle being chased by two Island County Sheriff’s Office deputies through The Goose parking lot. Marks chased Loetterle through Langley last week, but was unable to apprehend him, coming even as close as grabbing the 25-year-old man’s jacket before he allegedly shrugged the officer off.The chase extended to the Goodyear Tire building on Howard Road, where Adkins got out of his squad car and ran Loetterle behind the building, through a field and over the fence into the Hanson’s Building Supply lumberyard. After allegedly giving Loetterle several commands to get down on the ground because he was under arrest, Loetterle climbed scaffolding to reach the roof. Adkins circled the building to make sure Loetterle could not get down and continue to run, until more deputies could arrive to secure the perimeter. According to Adkins’ report, Loetterle refused to come down for 35 minutes before ending the standoff and coming down to be arrested and booked into Island County jail.
