SHERIFF’S REPORT | A gun rack query and aggressive panhandlers

The following are 9-1-1 calls to the Island County Sheriff’s Office, South Precinct. Friday, July 18 9:23 a.m. — A caller on Commercial Street reported an ongoing problem with transients sleeping behind the planter boxes in the shopping center. 4:49 p.m. — A caller on Bayview Road at Marguerite Brons Park said his dog was bitten by a pit bull. A verbal confrontation ensued and the female slammed the caller’s car door into him.

Friday, July 18

9:23 a.m. — A caller on Commercial Street reported an ongoing problem with transients sleeping behind the planter boxes in the shopping center.

4:49 p.m. — A caller on Bayview Road at Marguerite Brons Park said his dog was bitten by a pit bull. A verbal confrontation ensued and the female slammed the caller’s car door into him.

 

Saturday, July 19

11:07 a.m. — A caller on Saratoga Road just bought a car with a gun rack on the back and wants to know if it’s legal to keep guns there.

5:38 p.m. — A caller on Maxwelton Road reported her Labrador  was stuck in blackberry bushes and she thinks a raccoon is going to hurt it.

 

Sunday, July 20

8:13 a.m. — Wells Fargo in Freeland had a silent loss of communication with its whole alarm system.

8:46 a.m. — US Bank in Langley had a silent loss of alarm communication.

8:48 a.m. — US Bank in Freeland had a silent loss of alarm communication.

 

Monday, July 21

11:28 a.m. — A caller on Maxwelton Road at South Whidbey High School reported a break-in over the weekend.

 

Tuesday, July 22

9:03 a.m. — A caller at a Cultus Bay Road store reported a female was yelling in the shop saying, “All hell is going to break loose.” The female is still standing at the counter demanding “answers” from the caller.

6:39 p.m. — A caller at the Clinton Ferry Terminal reported  several people crabbing illegally on the public dock. Caller said it appeared to be two or three Asian women in their 20s.

 

Wednesday, July 23

7:14 a.m. — A caller on Bayview and Apollo roads reported mass amounts of mud over the roadway

6:52 p.m. — A caller at a Freeland grocery store reported transients aggressively asking for money.

 

Thursday, July 24

11:24 a.m. — A caller on East Harbor Road reported a threat against Sen. Patty Murray — she is currently on the South End. Editor’s note: Murray was in Washington, D.C. at the time.

11:40 a.m. — A caller at a Bayview grocery store reported observing odd behavior from transients hanging out in the area and would like to speak with a deputy as he thinks it may be related to some recent burglaries.
