The South Whidbey baseball team lost its third game to Coupeville Friday, 11-6.

“The issue was never really in doubt,” said Falcon coach Dave Guetlin. “In the second inning, Coupeville ran up a 5-0 lead which the Falcons just couldn’t overcome.”

The Falcons were stymied for the first three innings by Coupeville pitcher Ian Smith, who kept the Falcons off-balance with a series of off-speed pitches.

South Whidbey hitting finally came around, Guetlin said, but it was too little, too late. Falcon Michael Agate led the way, hitting two-for-three with a double and two RBIs. Agate’s double plated two runners for the Falcons in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning, the Falcons started to make it interesting as three runs were scored off hits from Zeke Spalding, Agate and Austin Bennett to lead the way.

“That was it for the Falcons, as they could only muster a base-on-balls in the top of the seventh before making the third out,” the coach added.

The Falcons travel to Archbishop Murphy today, then host the Wildcats at

4 p.m. Friday, April 23 at Falcon Field.
