The South Whidbey girls track and field finished as the 10th-place team at the Birger Solberg Invitational in Bellingham on Saturday.
In the all-classification meet, South Whidbey outperformed larger schools like Marysville Getchell, Cascade (Everett) and Archbishop Murphy.
Javelin and relay races were major successes for the Falcon girls. Senior Mackenzie Hezel and junior Abby Hodson placed in the javelin’s top 10. Both the 800-meter relay — Madi Boyd, Maia Sparkman, Bailey Forsyth and Anna Leski — and 1,600-meter relay — Jaime Rodden, Hezel, Boyd and Leski — teams finished in fourth place.
On the boys team, senior thrower Nick French won the javelin with a mark of 177 feet, 4 inches. The distance was nearly six feet farther than the second-place mark by Shorewood (Shoreline) senior Arious Frazier of 171 feet, 7 inches.
