South Whidbey School District Jo Moccia presented the evaluation form to the school board Wednesday that will be used to judge her performance during her next review.

Moccia, in her third month on the job, created the form based on six categories. The board will review Moccia’s performance in May on a five-point scale from “poor” to “excellent.” Categories for evaluation include her relationship with the school board, recruitment and supervision of personnel, relationship with the community, supervision of the curriculum and instruction, budget and financial matters, and professional qualities.

The new system of evaluation wasn’t entirely unexpected.

“In three years I’ve never had the same evaluation for the superintendent,” said Board Member Jill Engstrom.

In January, the board will have an informal review of Moccia.

At the end of the school year in June, the board will meet to discuss their evaluations.

The board will have two new members, however, by November.

Board President Rich Parker and Board Member Leigh Anderson both chose to not run for re-election. Damian Greene and Linda Racicot will replace them in unopposed elections.

Moccia’s first day as South Whidbey’s superintendent was July 1.
