‘Peace Begins in Our Corner’ at UUCWI

World peace seems like an unattainable goal, yet wise men like Gandhi advise us to “be the change you wish to see in the world.” Peace must begin close at hand and even within; only then can we hope to change the world.

At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Dave Bieniek will explore some of the possibilities.

Rev. Bieniek is ordained in the Metropolitan Community Church and presently serves as spiritual care services and volunteer coordinator at Whidbey General Hospital.

Christian Science service on Sunday explores ‘Mind’

Many people have heard the phrase “mind over matter” and assume that this means exerting human will power to lessen pain or illness.

In Christian Science, “Mind” is one of the seven synonyms for God, and when one puts God, or Mind, in charge, then “matter” must yield. “Divine metaphysics, as revealed to spiritual understanding, shows clearly that all is Mind, and that Mind is God, omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience — that is, all power, all presence, all Science. Hence all is in reality the manifestation of Mind,” (“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures”).

This exploration of Mind — and how recognition of God as Mind frees one from the fear of any disease or loss of thinking abilities — begins at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Christian Science Church at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road. Everyone is welcome.

Unity’s Sunday lesson is on forgiveness, reconciliation

Chris Nelson will give the talk “Bring Your Heart Home; Forgiveness, Reconciliation, Restoration” at the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday.

Jesus’ last prayer was said to have been “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” When one lives in the state of hate and blame toward anyone or any event, one cannot also live in the garden of joy. Join Nelson as he explores how to move from unforgiveness to healing.

Tadd CharetteNunn will provide the music with special guest, Russell Link and Donna Vanderheiden will serve as platform assistant.

SWCC celebrates with property dedication service

Pastor Darrell Wenzek will give a property dedication service, preaching on the topic, “The Land is the Lord’s,” at the new building site for South Whidbey Community Church north of Freeland on Sunday.

The service is at 10 a.m. on the northeast corner of Highway 525 and Wild Coyote Lane. Those wanting car pools may meet at 9 a.m. at the Whidbey Coffee booth in the Payless Parking lot; otherwise there is parking along the shoulder of Wild Coyote Lane.

Attendees should bring a lawn chair, and wear comfortable shoes and clothing.

Music will be provided by Phil and Ruth Ekstedt. A picnic lunch following the service will be provided at the property by women from the church; everyone is welcome. For everyone’s comfort, there will also be portable restrooms on site.

There will be no 9 a.m. adult learning forums. Regular worship and learning forums will resume at the Grange the following week at normal scheduled times.
