South Whidbey churches list weekend events

There are many activities from which to choose.

UUCWI talk focuses on loving, cheerful givers

What does it mean to be a loving and cheerful giver? Why do we invest in things that are important to us?

At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Kit Ketcham will explore issues of generosity and outreach.

Gloria Ferry-Brennan will be the special musician.

All are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided. The service is at 10 a.m. Sunday at 20103 Highway 525, north of Freeland. Check www.whidbey.com/uucwi for more information.

Pastor Wenzek preaches on sin at SWCC service

Most of us have at least some goals and aspirations, yet our past often seems to surface and ruin our chances of achieving and realizing all that God has for us. Sunday’s sermon at South Whidbey Community Church will be from the Old Testament Book of Joshua, Chapters 7 and 8. Pastor Darrell Wenzek will preach on the topic, “How Sin Can Defeat You.”

First, at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, there will be a monthly men’s breakfast at the grange.  All guys are invited for good food and fellowship.

Sunday worship at SWCC is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the life of Abraham. These are open classes, and everyone is invited.

Home Bible studies are also offered; check the church website for times and locations.

All SWCC sermons and special adult forum events are recorded, and are available on the website. The church is a local independent, non-denominational church that welcomes everyone and gathers for worship at the historic Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

The music will be provided by Talia Toni Marcus, and Joy Williams will serve as platform assistant.

A Course in Miracles group meets from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

All are welcome. Visit Unity of Whidbey’s website at http://www.unityofwhidbeyisland.org for more information.

Sunday’s service considers where the good has gone

At the Christian Science service on Sunday, April 10, readings from the Bible and “Science and Health” will focus on the question “Are Sin, Disease and Death Real?” Based on the good creation, your inheritance is all good, and you can lay claim to this inheritance today.

“Know, recognize, and understand therefore this day and turn your (mind and) heart to it that the Lord is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath; there is no other,” (Amplified Bible Deuteronomy 4:39), “The spiritual consciousness is therefore a present possibility,” (“Science and Health”).

Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road. Everyone is welcome.
