This year, a 13.1-mile half marathon will be run on Sunday and Choochokam organizer Matt Simms encourages everyone to participate.
The race starts at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, July 13 at the corner of Second and De Bruyn avenues, heads out along Saratoga Road to Fox Spit Road and back to downtown. Water stations will be spaced along the course.
The awards ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on the Main Stage next to the Dog House Tavern.
“We’re starting early so runners, their family and friends can get some lunch, check out the art and enjoy the music,” Simms said.
The cost is $40 per person and part of the proceeds will benefit the South Whidbey Community Center Foundation, dedicated to the creation of a recreation and aquatic facility on the South End.
Runners can register on Saturday, July 12 at the Choochokam booth, the morning of the race or online at www.langleyhalfmarathon.com. All entrants will receive special socks with race logo.
“We want everybody out there,” Simms added.
Race sponsors include Half-Link Bicycles, Island Athletic Club and the Star Store.
