Series starts Sunday at SWCC
Darrel Wenzek begins a two-part series tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church on “Taking Personal Responsibility for Yourself and for the Church.” The text tomorrow is Galatians 5:26-6:6.
Wenzek is a former pastor of Evangelical Free churches, and holds a MDiv. degree from Western Seminary in Portland. He is a frequent speaker at South Whidbey Community Church.
South Whidbey Community Church enjoys a wide variety of gifted and educated speakers at each Sunday morning worship service. Both the church and all its speakers adhere to the National Association of Evangelical’s Statement of Faith.
Each worship service at South Whidbey Community Church begins at 10 and is preceded at 9 a.m. by an Adult Learning Forum where the Book of Romans is discussed, led by Stan Walker.
Midweek Bible studies continue in the Gospel of Luke, at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, led by Art Angst at Rick and Dinah Zapata’s home.
South Whidbey Community Church — a newly-formed independent, evangelical, non-denominational church — is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road, Langley.

Sunday topic is ‘Testing, 1, 2, 3’
Songwriter and speaker Doug Benecke invites all to the Unity of Whidbey service on Sunday to reflect, in this season of graduations and final exams, on the challenges of the spiritually-oriented life. Trials can arise at any time, pop-quiz style, testing one’s faith, commitment and practice of love and kindness. How can we be ready to do the loving thing?

Role of science will be explored
“The Role of Science in Liberal Religious Thought” is the focus on Sunday for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island.
The findings of science are important to Unitarian Universalism. How does scientific inquiry inform liberal religious thought? How do science and Unitarian Universalism interact? Religion and science both describe reality, but through different lenses.
Rev. Kit Ketcham and Dr. David Cauffman will explore how we know what we know and the role of scientific truth in the search for meaning.
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island gathers for its Sunday service at 4 p.m. in the chapel at Trinity Lutheran, Woodard and Highway 525, Freeland.

Alaskan artist is guest speaker
Trinity Lutheran Adult Forum presents Byron Birdsall, internationally acclaimed Alaskan watercolorist, on Sunday, June 1.
Birdsall works out of a studio in a log house on the edge of Sand Lake near Anchorage and the artist is a part-time resident of Whidbey Island. He will share his religious icons and paintings from a trip to the Holy Land and will tell about the inspiration behind his work.
Trinity Adult Forum meets at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday in the Fireside Room. All are welcome.
Christian Science searches for peace
Concerns about mind control have existed throughout time under various names, such as temptation, necromancy, mesmerism and hypnotism.
The service on Sunday at Christian Science will ask, “Can we have support through God to negate such fears?” The sermon will explore the protection and peace one has through God against all malicious suggestions and claims. “The Lord my God hath given me rest on every side so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.” (I Kings 5:4).
Everyone is welcome. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at the church, 2411 E. Highway 525 (across from Useless Bay Road) on South Whidbey.
CMA presents Bible adventure
“Calling All Heroes: A Bible Adventure Awaits!” is coming to the Langley CMA Church from 9 a.m. to noon July 14-18.
The program is for kids who have completed kindergarten through the fifth grade.
