Five qualify for state in track

At District 1 championships in Bellingham on Friday, five South Whidbey athletes qualified for state finals in Tacoma.

Falcon Andy Bennett took second in the long jump with 20 feet, 8.5 inches. Cayla Calderwood was second in the triple jump at 36-2 and fourth in the high jump with 4-10.

Nikki Enters placed third in the shotput with a throw of 32 feet,

5 inches and third in discus with 106-05. Teammate Kelsey Engstrom was fourth in the shotput with 31-11.50.

Finally, sprinter Laura Barrow ran the 300-meter hurdles in 48.59 seconds, good for third and a berth at state.

The five will join Falcon coach Doug Fulton at Mount Tahoma High School starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28. 30.
