‘Standing on the Side of Love’ at UUCWI
A year ago, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island began giving the gift of its sanctuary and minister to same-sex couples who wanted to have a wedding ceremony. But “standing on the side of love” means more than wedding ceremonies. At this Sunday’s service, Rev. Kit Ketcham will consider how this commitment affects other areas of life as a faith community.
There will be a dedicated offering to benefit Planned Parenthood.

Series continues on Gospel of Matthew
Sunday morning at South Whidbey Community Church, Pastor Ron Wedeking will continue the series on the “Sermon on the Mount” chapters in the Gospel of Matthew.
Sunday’s topic is, “Lifestyle of a True Disciple: the Practice of Almsgiving,” based on Matthew 6:1-4.
Morning worship begins at 10 a.m. and is preceded by the adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of Acts, and Art Angst leading a study into Parables in the Gospel of Luke. These are open classes, and everyone is invited.

Christian Science focuses on Jesus
Jesus’ teachings were within his works, works that he told his followers to emulate. On Feb. 28 at the Christian Science Church, the service will explore how Jesus performed his work, and how one can follow his teachings, not in word only, but also in deed.
“He that believeth in me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do;because I go unto my Father” (John 14:12).
Everyone is welcome at this service on Christ Jesus beginning at 10:30 a.m. at 5910 Highway 525 (just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Avenue).
‘Spiritual Strength Training’ is at Unity
Joanna Gabriel will give the talk “Spiritual Strength Training” at Unity of Whidbey on Sunday.
We know that in order to develop and maintain a strong and healthy physical body, we must feed it well and exercise it to strengthen the muscles and the bones. This is also true if we desire to have a strong and healthy spiritual awareness and presence.
At the Sunday service, Unity will explore ways to develop a “Spiritual Strength Training program” to expand our conscious awareness, thus assisting and assuring our healthy growth and peace of mind.

‘Beyond Theology’ at Langley UMC
The adult forum series at Langley United Methodist Church continues with “Beyond Theology” at 11 a.m. Sundays.
This series examines topics such as the challenges confronting humanity and the changing representations of God. Facilitators Jennifer Morris and Paul Morris use the program “Beyond Theology” as a discussion prompter, as noted theologians, scholars and authors reflect upon the fundamental challenges of our time, addressing the roots of contemporary culture wars and the global environmental crisis.
The series focuses on the emergence of a world view that integrates science and spirituality while exploring the notion that the guiding myths of modern civilization are in transition.
