To the editor:
What a wonderful thrill to see so many old-time friends at our 100th birthday party celebration of the home at the top of First Street hill in Langley on Aug. 24.
The excellent article by Michaela Marx Wheatley on Aug. 23rd, welcomed nearly
200 folks to our door to enjoy a self-guided tour of the house, historical scrapbooks and stories of the Langley landmark. It was also an opportunity for locals to view the extensive changes to the old home that had to be made over the years to restore her from the many years of neglect and abuse.
Guests had a chance to look through albums of photographs, original wallpaper samples and written history of the house while sampling sandwiches, cookies, lemonade, iced tea and homemade birthday cakes. Rain did not dampen the spirits as the party moved inside with thanks to “Yours Truly” for providing the musical entertainment.
We thank the many folks who attended the event and Bill and Susanne Paulson, current owners of the home for their generosity in sharing their home for all to enjoy. We also wish to acknowledge the many city officials for their patience and understanding over the years to allow the work to be done to keep this “Painted Lady” a permanent fixture in Langley.
