State Rep. Norma Smith will host a telephone “town hall” meeting this week for people in the 10th District.

Residents can call in between 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24.

“It’s exciting to use this type of innovative way to reach folks who may not have time to attend one of my in-person meetings, or are simply too busy with family and work,” said Smith, R-Clinton. “My hope is that it allows people to have a two-way dialog about their government without leaving their home or trying to locate a number to call.”

Constituents can call in toll-free at 1-877-229-8493, then enter PIN 13450. Organizers said the meeting will follow a format similar to a call-in radio show, and participants can ask questions of Smith directly during the hour.

Smith said the conversation will be set by the callers and she’s not sure which topics will come up. In recent weeks, the state budget deficit, ferry issues and local parks have been hot topics.

“All legislative issues are on the table. If I’m not able to answer an inquiry, I’ll certainly follow-up to get the relevant information,” Smith said. “Keeping up with the bills and making sure I know where our district stands on issues is very important to me. Tuesday’s conversation will continue to help me be a better representative for our district.”
