LETTER TO THE EDITOR | We had great help

To the editor:

The crew at the Langley Chamber of Commerce want to thank the community and all the volunteers who continue to make the holiday season so special here in Langley.

Cynthia Tilkin and her decorating crew took on the town’s trees and Santa’s Workshop. Jay and Kathleen Davenny installed the town’s metal tree that Kathleen created years ago. Fred Lundahl, chamber president, hasn’t stopped for one moment, helping in all facets of bringing the holidays home here in town. Vern Olsen and his merry band of musicians once again led our holiday caroling at the lighting. Thanks, Langley Police Department and the city, for all your assistance and support. Can’t forget Michael Stadler and Jon Gabelein, who opened up Santa’s Workshop for Photos with Santa the past two weekends. Sonshine Alpacas and the 4-H Alpaca Club have become annual traditions here, too. Not only have their rein-alpacas guided Santa in for the lighting, the club has been providing cider and hot chocolate at the lighting for years, and now are stationed at Santa’s Workshop with hot beverages. Come on down and support their fundraiser.

The Langley parade had more than 200 participants this year. And how fun was it to hear the Washington State Pipe Band both in the parade and at Boy & Dog Park and Useless Bay Coffee throughout the day? Patricia Friedman continued her logistics expertise at the Holiday Parade, and thanks, too, to Celia Black and Gwen Jones for coming out to help direct incoming parade traffic. Bob Waterman made a great rumble-seat showing as our grand marshal.

We are so appreciative of the donations made by Puget Sound Energy and businesses from throughout South Whidbey who supported this year’s Home for the Holidays community celebration.

The celebration continues with glass blowing with Callahan McVay, a strolling Santa, Photos with Santa and overall cheer at our local businesses. From ornaments to dog collars, gems to upscale designs, and everything in between, Langley is the place for fun experiences and year-round shopping adventures. Don’t forget the many holiday performances presented by Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, Whidbey Children’s Theater and Whidbey Island Dance Theatre.

Again, thank you South Whidbey community!
