The South Whidbey fastpitch softball team lost its final game 10-0 to undefeated Granite Falls on Wednesday.
“This was by far not our best-played game of the year,” said Falcon coach Don Wood. “That said, we got help from Cedarcrest when they beat Archbishop Murphy last night in 10 innings to give our league a three-way tie for second place.”
South Whidbey, Murphy and Cedarcrest all share an 11-7 season record.
“The bright spot of our game with the Tigers was the pitching performance from Katy Piehler,” Wood said. “In spite of several errors from our infield, she was able to keep a well-hitting team to only three runs through the fourth inning. Katy has emerged this year as one of the top pitchers in the league.”
The season comes down to head-to-head games. South Whidbey has beaten Murphy and Cedarcrest two games each to take over the number-two spot for the league.
“ATM has beaten the Red Wolves to take third, so Cedarcrest is fourth,” Wood said.
The Falcons will have their first playoff game on Friday, May 21 in Sedro-Woolley against a Northwest League opponent to be determined.
