The Whidbey Camano Land Trust is updating its land protection plan and wants to hear from islanders about potential priorities.

Land trust officials will host four community workshops on Whidbey and Camano islands in July and August. Each meeting will include a brief presentation about the land trust and its land protection plan, with a majority of the time spent collecting input from the community. There will be maps to illustrate the issues, small-group conversations and forms provided for written comments.

“We want to be sure that the land trust continues to focus on protecting and stewarding properties with the most significant conservation values and community conservation priorities,” said Pat Powell, executive director of the land trust.

The original plan was developed in 2005 with significant input from natural resource specialists, land trust members and the public, and the plan has helped protect important natural habitats, scenic vistas and working farms in Island County. The land trust is a local nonprofit that works to protect those places that Whidbey and Camano islanders hold precious and important for current and future generations.

The meetings all begin at 5 p.m. and will be Wednesday, July 13 at Coupeville United Methodist Church; Wednesday, July 27 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 18341 Highway 525, Freeland; Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Skagit Valley College Oak Harbor campus, Hayes Hall, Room 137; 1900 SE Pioneer Way,

Oak Harbor; and Thursday, Aug. 18 at the Camano Senior Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.
