To the editor:

I have known Chris Jerome since our sons became best pals in high school (South Whidbey Class of 2002). He is a bright guy. He is thorough and attentive to detail. He was trained as a veterinarian and has started and run three businesses. His approach is that of a scientist.

Prior to deciding to run for port commissioner, Chris began studying the port district. He attended their meetings. He visited the facilities the port district owns and operates. He spoke with the staff. He researched the port’s budget, documents and the associated codes. He made an informed choice to run for this position.

From this research comes his platform. Promoting economic development to create jobs that pay a living wage is why he became a candidate. He is not a developer. He is an experienced businessman with direct experience creating jobs.

Chris has analyzed the port district’s budget. To him it appears that current port expenditures lean heavily toward maintenance of marine/beach access without much in the way of revenue-producing or economic-development potential. His goal as commissioner is to bring the port district’s expenditures more in line with its economic development mission and to identify and progress profitable projects.

I urge you to vote for Chris Jerome for port commissioner.
