Another meeting for those wanting to work for the decriminalization of marijuana in Washington state will be next week in Freeland.

The meeting to discuss the petition drive to put Initiative 1068 on

the November ballot willbe from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Highway 525 and Woodard Avenue.

The meeting will cover what the initiative does and doesn’t do, and how to collect signatures. Petitions will be available, said organizer Steve Erickson of Langley.

I-1068 would remove state civil and criminal penalties for persons

18 years or older who “cultivate, possess, transport, sell, or use marijuana.”

The petition drive is being conducted by Sensible Washington, a statewide group. I-1068 needs 241,000 valid signatures by Friday, July 2, to be placed on the November ballot. Erickson said 330,000 or more signatures probably need to be collected.
