Alec Chinnery, a 16-year-old resident of Clinton, is a French horn player and member of the school wrestling team. He could also be called a hero.

On July 10, Chinnery’s co-worker at Island Concierge experienced a heart attack while the two were doing landscaping. Chinnery helped his co-worker into the truck, carrying him for some of the distance. As Chinnery drove his co-worker to Whidbey General Hospital, the man’s condition worsened, prompting Chinnery to pull to the side of the road and, with the help of a 911 operator, took the proper steps to help his co-worker until emergency medical services arrived. The man was then transported by ambulance to Whidbey General Hospital where he was successfully treated.

Roger Meyers, emergency medical services manager of Whidbey General Hospital commended him for his good deed, noting that his “mature actions belie his young age, and his decision to seek medical attention provided his co-worker with prompt and potentially life-saving interventions.”
