The kitchen of South Whidbey Youth Connection’s after-school program, The Hub, has a new look.

Ray Green of Building Source in Freeland donated many hours of labor to install new sinks and countertops. He was able to purchase the materials at cost thanks to a $1,000 grant from the Coastal Community Bank Employees’ Giving Fund and a $500 grant from Rotary Club of South Whidbey.

For the past 20 years, Langley United Methodist Church has donated space for The Hub, and now the kitchen is updated. Many thanks go out to our community volunteers and donors for making this drug- and violence-free space so attractive to South Whidbey middle and high school students.

The updated kitchen was featured during LUMC’s 100th anniversary open house on Sept. 13.

The Hub is open school days from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Food for the daily nutritious snack is provided by Good Cheer Food Bank and a grant from Community Mobilization Against Substance Abuse and Violence.
