Fifty people braved strong winds and chilly weather to attend a sculpture dedication in honor of Nancy Nordhoff at the Bayview Cash Store on Feb. 15.
Nordhoff, a founder of the non-profit organization Goosefoot, is a Langley resident and philanthropist who stepped down from the board in September after serving for more than 15 years. The sculpture was made to honor Nordhoff for her contributions to Bayview Corner. Her efforts led to the purchasing and renovating of the Bayview Cash Store and grounds as a gift to the community. She also founded Hedgebrook, the women writers’ retreat center on South Whidbey.
Local sculptor Sue Taves was commissioned by Goosefoot with the task of carving an original work of art made out of black basalt. The piece, titled “To Hold,” is located across from the Bayview Bicycles.
“It went wonderfully. Nancy absolutely loved the sculpture,” said Goosefoot Director of Program and Fund Development Marian Myszkowski. “The sculpture really embodies Nancy’s personality and her embrace of the South Whidbey community.”
Goosefoot is an economic development organization whose mission is to enhance local commerce and help create a sustainable future for South Whidbey.
