Puget Sound Energy expects to have the power restored for all of its customers on Whidbey Island today, a spokeswoman for the company said Monday afternoon.

High winds — with gusts as high as 65 miles per hour — swept across the island overnight and through much of the morning. There were 16 power outages reported on Whidbey during the night and this morning, leaving roughly 500 customers without electricity.

“These are small, scattered outages,” said PSE spokeswoman Dorothy Bracken. “Crews expect to have all power restored by this afternoon.”

Island County Fire District 3 crews responded to more than 20 calls beginning at about 2 a.m. Jan 18, and all but one were related to the weather, said FD3 Assistant Chief Mike Cotton.

There were many reports of trees on power lines and branches scattered on roadways, Cotton said.

Intermittent power disruption was reported in several areas, including Clinton, Glendale, Langley, Scatchet Head and the Goss Lake area.

Crews worked to remove a large tree that blocked Holst Road at Glendale Road about 6 a.m., Cotton said.

Downed power lines also were reported at Wilkinson Road and Commercial Street in Clinton, and along Deer Lake Road.

No injuries were reported due to the weather.
