Hospital, athletic club offer low-cost blood screenings

Whidbey General Hospital and Island Athletic Club are teaming up to promote community wellness by offering a low-cost Cholesterol/Triglyceride/Blood Sugar screenings. Screenings will be offered Sept. 17-18 and 24-25.

Whidbey General Hospital and Island Athletic Club are teaming up to promote community wellness by offering a low-cost Cholesterol/Triglyceride/Blood Sugar screenings. Screenings will be offered Sept. 17-18 and 24-25.

The cost is $50, open to the public and includes: total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, fasting blood sugar, blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index (blood sample is obtained from a finger stick and you’ll know your results in 10 minutes).

Women with financial challenges are offered the screening for free; the cost is covered by a Soroptimist Heart of a Woman grant.

A detailed education class discusses lab results, cardiac risk factors and preventative actions to take. To sign up for a Heartwise screening, contact Island Athletic Club in advance to pre-register at 360-331-2582.
